DESCRIPTION: A tawny-brown to almost black caterpillar with creamy blotches and an orange stripe running along each side of the body that is covered in a mass of white speckles. The head is black with more white speckling and the spines vary from pale yellow to black with a pale band. The fully fed caterpillar spins a silken pad on a stem of the host plant and pupates head downwards. FOODPLANT: Thistles, Burdock, Nettle, Viper's-Bugloss and Mallow . SEASON: June to July. |
